Guinea (Bissau) Girl

Standard

This week, an 18 year old who I’ve known since she was a babe in arms is off to Guinea-Bissau. (Google maps will help here, I promise.)

After a couple of weeks in the capital, Bissau, she’ll be leaving by bus – on her birthday, no less – to the small town that will be her new home while she works as a volunteer at a local school. Knowing her, I suspect she’ll soon become involved in a lot of other things too.  It’s the first time that she’ll have been out of Europe and I take my hat off to her for being adventurous and giving it a try, for committing to no small endeavour and for deciding to do this rather than any number of other things that would, quite frankly, have been more obvious and comfortable choices.

Bon voyage and bonne chance – and I can’t wait to hear the stories!
